UW MCDM Emerging Series Logo

I was recently given the task to create a logo for their “Emerging Series”, a new event series produced by UW Digital Media Department (MCDM) intended to elevate both their public scholarship in digital communication and their brand within the community. These events will be held at the University of Washington campus and streamed online simultaneously.
I came up with the design idea of the logo by working on the word “emerging” itself, meeting with stakeholders at the MCDM. I then collaborated with one of my designer classmates Katia Farage, to produce the logo for use in print and online.
The core ideas behind this logo design were:
• “e-“ = electronics and the digital media (client is UW Digital Media)
• “-“ = the bridging of the digital and analog, theory (academia)+practice(business) (UW and business)
• “((()))” = the communication concept is emphasized with the broadcast/wifi wave figure in the logo
• “I” = The Internet and online streaming of the event
• “merging” = the gathering with people who use digital media as a tool, also the merging of the theory (academia)+practice(business)
• “emerging” = today’s communication ecosystem
